| About TCon How it started There is a growing community of technology enthusiasts in the Maldives. Some of them are just self-educated hobbyists; some academically or professionally trained in a field of technology and others still just plain technology lovers. However, so far the various fields have existed as discrete disciplines and have failed to establish a public presence. This lack of presence maybe due to the failures of many, including all involved in the field. The successful ?Linux Demo Day? organized by the Maldivian Linux User Group and the Science Fairs organized by the government authorities are of note as these events showed the strong support for science and technology in the education sector as well as the general public. What it is TCon is a yearly event to bring together the Maldivian technology enthusiasts to share knowledge, to showcase their work and to develop connections among themselves to help strengthen the industry in the Maldives. TCon consists of several events: a. Participant Demos Participants can demonstrate their work and deliver presentations at their stations at the convention. The work showcased can be software, hardware or even ideas. Additionally, NGO?s and user groups may have stalls to promote, spread information and acquire members. If you are interested in showing off your work please apply via the Online Applications page. b. Lectures/Presentations Lectures will be delivered from individuals or organizations on various topics and will cater for audiences of different backgrounds. The topics are open so as to maintain diversity and allow participation by a larger group. If you are keen on delivering a lecture or a presentation, please apply via the Online Applications page. c. Workshops Workshops will be conducted during the convention. Visitors will be able to take part and immerse themselves in a technology environment and interact with workshop coordinators and learn hands on. d. Competitions Competitions will also be part of the convention. The competitions will be open for visitors and participants alike. The aims of TCon The aims of TCon include: - increasing awareness - exchange of ideas and knowledge - provide exposure for local technologies We hope these will help achieve our goals of promoting and improving the Maldivian technology industry. |
